Equipment Repair

Many of our customers find significant value in our “turn-key” services that we provide for industrial equipment repair. Below, we have provided 2 examples that incorporate all aspects of our on-site capabilities!

Long Island, NY
The Bliss press, pictured below, required significant repair after a mechanical failure resulted in a cracked frame and a bent crankshaft.

Our on-site turn-key service provided:
all rigging and tear-down, metal locking of the cracked frame, in-situ line boring of the main bearing journals and caps, repairing the crankshaft and machining custom bronze bearings to match, reassembly of all mechanicals and finally testing for correct operation.

Nitro, West Virginia

This customer approached us with a typical gear wear problem. The bull gears on 2 of their ball mills were worn and missing teeth in several areas which was leading to drive-train problems and failing gearboxes.

Each “turn-key” repair included:
rigging/blocking the ball mill, removing the babbitted bearing and concrete pedestal, removing the old gear, installing the new gear via resistance heating, fabricating and installing a new steel pedestal (grouting & anchoring), babbitting and machining the bearing saddle, lining up the new drive gearbox, relining the hopper with 10 ga. steel, fabricating a new auger trough and finally testing for correct operation.

Sometimes tried and true machinery just needs an upgrade.  The pictures below detail 1 of 5 Perkins Mixers that MLS has rebuilt within the last 2 years.  Original gear drives were replaced with variable speed drives.  All new bearings, packing and refurbished paddles were installed.  Run-in tests prove correct operation along with bearing and packing performance.
